Sant Maurici, Ratera, La Cabana, Gran d'Amitges, Barbs and Munyidera
The Estanys d’Amitges (Gran d’Amitges, Barbs and Munyidera) are located at 2,400 meters altitude.
This is a highly recommended excursion, as we can see many lakes and enjoy stunning landscapes.
To reach the Estanys d’Amitges, we have 2 options
4x4 and Hiking Excursion
Option A: Combined
The 4×4 takes us to the Estanys d’Amitges (50 min). To return, we’ll walk down the same track to Estany de Sant Maurici (2 h), where a 4×4 will pick us up to return to Espot.
Another option is to start the descent following the 4×4 track and, 100 m from the refuge, take the right turn toward the Estany de les Obagues de Ratera.
At the end of this path we’ll cross the river on a footbridge to reach the Estany Viewpoint. From here, we’ll retrace our steps to reach Estany de Ratera. Continuing along the 4×4 track we’ll find the turn toward “la Cascada,” which will take us to an 8-meter waterfall.
Then we’ll go around Estany de Sant Maurici and reach the 4×4 pickup point (total approx. 3 h 30 min).

4x4 Excursion
Option B: Complete
We depart from Espot by 4×4 to the Estanys d’Amitges (approx. 50 min). There we’ll make the first stop of 20 minutes, return to the 4×4 and descend to Estany de Ratera, where we’ll make another 20-minute stop. Next we’ll descend to Estany de Sant Maurici, where we’ll make the third and final 20-minute stop.
After visiting Estany de Sant Maurici, we’ll return to the village of Espot.
Total approximate duration of the excursion: 2 h 45 min.
